3:45 PM     Supporting Homeless Women Veterans: "Creating Advocates from Within Our Own Ranks"

• Women veterans are the fastest growing segment of the homeless veteran population. Some women veterans carry a lot of guilt and shame when they get into a situation that leads to homelessness. They become very reluctant to reach out for help before it is too late. Some of these women veterans are right among us every day - the signs are there, but we miss them. It is a proven fact that women veterans will open up to their peers, share their story, and ultimately ask for help.
  This segment will educate and empower women veterans to become advocates for their sisters in arms who have fallen on hard times, are homeless, or at risk of being homeless. Attendees will learn how to recognize the possible signs of a woman veteran that may be in distress, and how to reach out and offer aid without being intrusive.
