From the tackling of the climate crisis to protecting critical infrastructure from cyber and physical threats, the federal government can take the lead but cannot alone solve all the challenges that impede the move toward a sustainable and resilient future. It will take a whole-of-government and a whole-of- nation approach. This panel of government experts will discuss how agencies can harness the power and resources of government and the private sector to modernize for a resilient future.

Researchers are using data science and computation-based methods, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML, to tackle basic science challenges, advance clean energy technologies, improve energy efficiency, and predict extreme weather and climate patterns. In recent years, the explosion of accessible data and new computation-based analysis tools has helped scientists and researchers better understand and predict the nature of complex scientific processes related to sustainability.  Data governance, management, and protection are increasingly critical as agencies rely more on data analytics to optimize operations and drive decision-making. In this panel, leading government data officers will discuss how agencies are applying data and science to solve today’s pressing energy, infrastructure, and environmental issues.
