Cybersecurity Chapter:
Modernizing National Cyber Defenses

President Biden’s Executive Order on Improving the Nation's Cybersecurity sets “aggressive but achievable goals” to modernize federal cybersecurity and protect government networks. Nation-state adversaries and cyber criminals have stepped up sophisticated cyber campaigns on public sector and private networks. As a result, the federal government needs CIOs and Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) from every agency to help in creating governmentwide cybersecurity guidelines, according to Federal CISO Chris DeRusha.  As part of the EO, agencies must advance toward Zero Trust security and accelerate movement toward secure cloud services, enhance software supply chain security, and improve detection of cybersecurity vulnerabilities and incidents in federal networks. The EO also calls for increased sharing of threat information between the government and the private sector.

This is a monumental but necessary task, even more so in the wake of cyber incidents that have led to theft of sensitive information and disruption of government and critical infrastructure operations. During this webinar, leading government CIOs and CISOs will describe how agencies are applying executive order guidance to build more cyber resilient information systems and networks and using technologies such as endpoint detection and protection (EDR) to gain more visibility into what’s going on within their networks and beyond.  Furthermore, experts will discuss how the government can harness the power of agency data for threat and vulnerability analysis and proactive threat hunting via the Cybersecurity Infrastructure and Security Agency’s (CISA) Continuous Diagnostic and Mitigation Program (CDM).

Join AFCEA Bethesda on September 8 to hear government cybersecurity leaders and experts discuss how agencies can keep pace with today’s increasingly dynamic and sophisticated cyber threat environment by taking decisive steps to modernize their cybersecurity workforce, processes, and technologies.
